By vehicle type, the number of defect cases is Kia EV6(26), Genesis GV60(6), Genesis GV70(1), and Hyundai Ioniq5(1) between 2022 and 2023.

Previously, in the United States, about 30 Ioniq 5 drivers raised the possibility of a defect last month, saying that they experienced a loss of power or a partial decrease after a warning sign appeared with a sudden 'pop' noise while driving. In response, the US Highway Traffic Safety Administration began investigating the possibility that it might have something to do with the battery power supply.

Immediately after the problem occurred in the United States, Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Motors explained to YTN that there were no complaints in Korea, saying, "No complaints were received." However, YTN noted that when the reporters obtained the data, they changed their words and acknowledged the related content.

앞서 미국에서는 지난달 아이오닉5 운전자 30여 명이 운행 중 갑자기 '펑'하는 소음과 함께 경고 표시가 뜬 뒤 동력이 상실되거나 일부 감소하는 경험을 했다며 결함 가능성을 제기했다. 이에 미국 도로교통안전국은 배터리 전원 공급 장치와 관계가 있을 가능성이 있다고 보고 조사에 나섰다.

현대차·기아 측은 미국에서 문제가 발생한 직후 국내에는 접수 건수가 없느냐는 YTN의 질의에 당시 "접수된 게 없다"고 해명했다. 하지만 YTN은 취재진이 자료를 입수하자 말을 바꿔 관련 내용을 인정했다고 했다.

현대차 관계자는 4일 한국면세뉴스와의 통화에서 "커뮤니케이션에 오해가 있었던 것 같다. 있으면 있다고 이야기를 하지 없다고 하고 나중에 아니라고 커뮤니케이션을 하지 않는다"고 해명했다.

이어 "동력 상실건은 사안을 파악해서 빠른 시일내 적절한 조치가 시행될 수 있도록 하겠다"고 했다.
